Olin isn't THAT popular. this list is 2000 users and might peak at 200 messages =3D 400,000 emails = =20 Most days a lot less. Some days none. Not all members subscribe to all=20 topics either. So 400,000 is generous but a reasonable point to estimate=20 cost for hosting PIClist. But we were not talking about the PIClist, but=20 "new" list. Which by definition would be small at the start and could be=20 hosted at $20 a year. Migrating is only money if demand balloons. What's=20 the subject line of the thread? My point is that popular Forum is even more expensive, unless most=20 members are inactive, in which case email is more expensive. My point was that it's much cheaper for 10 to 100 users. It's only=20 expensive for large number of users. How many users is the Olin List=20 going to have? I'm familiar with ISP sized mail systems. At least one that has 50,000=20 users. I think honestly we have been talking about different things. If your 10=20 to 100 user list grows then at some point you need more capacity from=20 hosting company. It's only popularity that's expensive. --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
