I ran the server for a mailing list that had 2000 users and around 100 messages per day peak. There IS a difference in servers that send ~1000 emails per day and servers that send 200,000. If (he) is just assuming that it scales up nicely because emails are small, that's just not the case. There are a lot of snags, technically and politically.
