Quite the contrary, you don't even have to register or sign in to post a question or answer. There is, in fact, no mechanism to review posts prior to them being available publicly - if it gets to the point where a user is regularly posting trash, they are simply banned. No purgatory for that site... So, yeah, the definition of moderation is quite different, and I was using it incorrectly for this audience. The community can edit posts others make, or flag them as abusive/spam/etc and users with more power can delete such posts. While some functions on the site are provided only to elected moderators, most are provided to regular users who gain the community's trust, as defined by getting a lot of positive votes on their contributions. Olin can already edit other user's posts at will, and vote to close posts that don't fit the site's purpose. Soon enough he will join a handful of others that can vote to delete posts, view deleted posts, and perform several other functions provided to high-level users. In a sense by participating you gain many of the powers required to direct and moderate the site. It is such a different way of running a discussion site (and yet very similar to many other types of sites) that it might suit him better than an email or forum style group. -Adam --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
