Don't know about cutting plastic. You could ask them for a demo or send
them a sample. Fiber lasers have a lightweight head on the end of a
snake so it's a natural for replacing cutting heads on cnc machines.
Price is "competitive", but only if you consider that they are the new
desirable thing. So $10k and up depending on power.

http://www.ipgphotonics.com/ make some neat ones. Too bad you aren't in
silicon valley, there are a few big players with applications labs here,
they'd play with them with you.
