FWIW, what I'd like to see happen is someone (as mentioned, probably Russell) talking to SW about his behaviour. I find it extremely troublesome that he feels the need/right to express himself in that way. I don't think that's ok, though I don't know how we, as on list administrators could control that short of banning him. Our addresses are probably freely available in many places on the net, so he could lash out even if he wasn't a subscriber. I too feel it would be courteous to let Andrew know that we've been looking into the situation, and that we're sorry it happened. I think it's fair to say that we're trying to monitor things and influence them without creating another potential blow up, either on list or off. Mentioning that since the comments were off list that we're trying to exert influence without overtly punishing someone for a private email is something that could be included or excluded. I agree with Russell in that moderation wouldn't have helped this, and in my opinion banning him is probably a fruitless action. I would vote for a diplomatic approach in dealing with his ongoing actions.
