Reasonably orthogonal to the main thread, I'll pick up on this error [tm]. > =A0> ...and in a way that deviates from the generally accepted form. > Which is one, not that uncommon, definition of "wrong". :-) No. Not in any normal sense. Not in typical scientific or engineering communities at least. The claim is extremely misleading and dangerous. While things that are "wrong" [tm] will usually be DFTGAN =3D different from the generally accepted form/norm this does NOT imply that the converse or corollary is always true or even usually true. All that being DFTGAN tells you about something with certainty is that it is relatively rare. Some societies do tend to operate as if DFTGAN is bad - eg my observations of, as much as it is possible to generalise such things, the "typical" [tm] Swiss mindset is that conformation to societal norms is highly desireable and that departure from them is almost repugnant. My perceptions are based on a number of personal encounters, large and small plus comment by others. As with all things culturalist, I may be wrong. This sort of mindset can have very positive results eg it allows the Swiss to insist that (afaik) a large number of young people of a certain range of ages MUST keep government (semi?) automatic weapons and live ammunition in their homes BUT when they have a multiple killing with one of these weapons they are shocked, horrified, amazed and incredulous. After all, wyy would a reservist ever use their government issued weapon and live ammunition which is stored in their home to kill people? Unthinkable!!! A far lower level of (semi) automatic weapon ownership in countries with a more independent general mindset would (and does) lead to relative carnage. It may be that JE holds a "different is wrong" mindset for whatever reason, but I hope not. But, regardless, in science and engineering different is not wrong just because it's different. "Wrong is different" , but "different only MAY be wrong". AND out of difference from the norm the very very very large majority of innovations, discoveries and advances come. And those that don't are usually different as well, but nobody knew ;-) Russell Tag hacked as original was poor or bad for whatever reason. .. --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
