Most of the smaller engine problems that I encounter could be put off=20
with better control of ignition & fuel parameters.
So far I have never got past the thinking stage. The last nasty problem=20
I fixed on a lawn tractor required replacing the carburetor. I believe=20
there was just too much wear around the throttle shaft that caused a=20
lean mixture. A closed feedback loop as implemented with an injector=20
would have tuned around the problem.

I think the economic factors of manufacturing, marketing and maintenance=20
have made the small engine ECU a logical next step.
