When I have learnt driving in Hungary (more than 20 years ago) I had to do
theory, then car handling in a special track, and after successfully passin=

the exam on those practise in the city with a fully qualified instructor
(with the special car with break and clutch pedals on the passenger seat an=
d
of course extra mirrors). You could get extra lessons on slippery road if
you wish but that is not necessary for getting the licence.

Here in the UK on the other hand you just hop into your car, get someone
with a driving license and drive on your own risk (and all others' on the
road...). For me it is absolutely weird and against all my logic as first o=
f
all the person teaching you does not know how to teach obviously,
not necessary up-to-date with all the rules applied on the road, maybe does
not know how to spot hazardous situations, and most importantly has no brea=
k
pedal to stop the car if there is an emergency.

In Ireland it was even worse (however, as far as I know now they have
changed the rules). So over there you could drive your car without a 2nd
person supervising you. So you pass the theory, and then get into the car
with a provisioning licence and hope the best not crashing it or hit
someone... ridiculous!
