I was a little confused with your description of the connections, but I

True. I can substitute a separate mic snake the construction of which I=20
am sure of and see if I get the same result. I twill be difficult to=20
check every foot of the built in cable, since it is "built in."

But if there was something other than three wires it would be=20
unconventional compared to what I have seen in other installations.
