Have a friend with a scale measure th= e distance between the center of your pupils as you look straight ahead. Then, for reading glasses, look down (almost crosseyed) as if you were reading a book and then have the friend measure your PD. I actually measured my own by looking into a mirror with a scale and it turned out to be close enough.
