Essentially. Think of a closet in your living room. Open the door.=20 Adjust the dimensions of the door opening to ~4'x~4', raised three feet=20 off of the ground. Also imagine a shoe-box shaped room with the long=20 dimension at right angles to the opening. Hope that helps. >> What I am looking for is a way to mic several individuals standing in 3 >> feet of water, in close proximity, in a small room with lousy acoustics, >> and still get a nice full sound. > You haven't been specific about what the 'room' is actually lined with no= w. If it is hard surfaces (as seems from your description) then I am sure s= omeone will come up with some funding to have a velvet drape curtain around= the wall. That will give you very good acoustics within that space. > The curtain would be an easily tried idea. That may be the best solution=20 suggested so far. And it would look a lot nicer. Drywall all around, except for the "tub" which is fiberglass. > I would also go along with Gordon's suggestion of shotgun mics - but they= can be highly directional, like you just about have to tie the persons hea= d down as though they are on a medical carry-out stretcher with possible ne= ck damage, in some cases. > > I would look for some 'super-cardoid' mics as a first hit, and do a trial= to see what sort of effect you get then. In view of the sort of organisati= on you are, I am sure your local supplier will allow you to evaluate a coup= le of samples over an evening or weekend. Feed the mixer output into a vide= o camera so you can get a feel for how it sounds afterwards, with a picture= to see the effects of wandering around as you speak. > > My experience with similar arrangements is all with the baptistery out in= the main chapel area, not set off in the side room. Nope, it's kind of "built in." I don't really think this is the best=20 approach, but it seems to be quite common.
