Yes you are missing something here and it's called perception. Laws of physics are constructed from combining observed phenomena with theoretical support or vice verse. You can observe and theorize it, or you can extend an existing theory and find out a new phenomena which should exist according to equations and so on. You can not derive a theory from scratch that is not in your observation range (with your sensory organs or tools you develop) and not related to any other theory. Mankind has reached VERY small portion of universal knowledge yet and our observation specifications determine the wideness of our theories. I agree that PIClist consists of people who have reasonably more scientific background than the average person but that googleable background is a very small portion of existing knowledge in the universe. Denying this approach yields to no difference between man and the machine - I invite you to think about this. Constraining the laws of physics down to our current knowledge will never take us further, it can only make our technology slightly better combining current methodologies . We have LOTS of limits originating from lack of theory that hold us back from developing new technologies and these will never be achieved unless new fields of physics are unlocked. We are rised with limitations from our childhood meaning it's not easy to break your walls and think freely. This is the main reason why some people get Nobel Prices and some don't. This has nothing to do with education directly and I am telling this as a person who has several degrees in engineering and science.Your approach eventually comes to a deadlock where iphone is considered the biggest invention of all time. Peace out. On Sun, May 15, 2011 at 12:51 AM, Chris McSweeny wro= te: > Am I missing something here? I thought the PIClist was mostly > populated by people with a reasonable scientific background.
