If time is no object, rent, borrow or build a chip identifier. 25 years ago that's exactly what technicians used to work around the problem you have no= w in service work. A chip identifier is a box with a socket where you insert the= chip and it will ID it. Usually they will find any 4000 and 74xx series logic ch= ips and a lot more. PC based and non PC based versions exist(ed). You can proba= bly find a schematic or a used one somewhere. I assume they are worth pennies n= ow. Expect a desktop calculator sized box with a socket on it and a display. Here's an example: http://www.8051projects.info/proj.asp?ID=3D73 Some are MUCH more elaborate and also program chips while they're at it (EE= PROM PIC etc). good luck, -- Peter --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
