The stator has the ability to " rotate" the excitation field so that the ro= tor produces output in phase with the Mains. The stator does not rotate, ju= st the magnetic field.=20 There are many windings connected to many cabinets and there is a phase met= er on the main control panel that must match with in a degree before the ge= nerator is put on line.=20 The stator is really impressive to see with the amount of separate field wi= ndings stacked in a giant ring. The stator cooling is done from the outside= diameter.=20 Cheers,=20 Fred=20 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: "Justin Richards" =20 To: "Microcontroller discussion list - Public." =20 Sent: Sunday, May 8, 2011 12:56:25 AM=20 Subject: [OT]:how are hydroelectric power stations synchronised=20 The question has come up regarding syncronising hyrdoelectric power station= s.=20 I can see how a diesel fired station is controlled but I cant see how=20 you could control a hydro powered turbine.=20 I guess they generate ac and variable freq convert to dc and convert to ac.= '=20 However, the converts would have to handle a huge amount of power and=20 perhaps not possible to build such a device.=20 Any ideas.=20 The web didn't want to play.=20 Cheers Justin=20 --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive=20 View/change your membership options at=20 http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist=20 --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
