I just bought one of these: http://www.cuisinart.ca/cuisinart_product.php?product_id=3D222&item_id=3D24= 2&cat_id=3D14 Mine is black though. This is a pretty high end toaster ($229 at Home Depot, way less on Amazon though). I started browsing a local classified website and snagged it for $35. It's quite large, which I think is slowing the heating time. I ran it a bit with no board, but with a thermocouple in it and the front panel temperature calibration is off by about 50F. Not a huge deal, I can compensate. If I ever get ambitious I'll open it up to see if it's adjustable. When heating up it seems to put more power to the top elements, or at least they glow earlier and brighter than the bottom. I'm not entirely sure why, nor do I know if the controller is able to variably control the power to the elements or if it's on/off. The latter would be cheaper, so I'm leaning that way. As I mentioned, this thing is fairly large, so there are three rack positions. The racks can be put in up or down resulting in a about a further 2-3cm of adjustment. How important is even heating from top and bottom? If the bottom isn't capable as putting out as much power as the top (for whatever reason), I might try putting the rack in the low slot but facing upwards. I guess that might take a bit of experimentation.
