I've never seen= it > before either. It's just a C shape with a bar on 5, making it an F. You can play F in other ways, for example if you make an E shape and bar on 1 you also get a F cord. Sounds a little different, but might be easier for you to bar. (this of course is all assuming standard tuning). To play it as is: bar across 5, and then reach for the others. A little difficult for my shorter fingers, but I managed it. You can mute the big string with your pinky as it reaches 8, or slightly lift your index on the big string, or just don't hit the big string on your strum, whatever your fancy.
