I've never actually had a drive fail, probably because I do backups. On my server at home, I do an rsync backup of data every night to a SATA drive in a USB dock. Once a month I do a G4L backup of the entire drive image to the same docked drive. I then swap that drive out and take it to work for "off site storage." With the G4L image, I don't have to reinstall and configure everything. With the rsync data, I can restore the /home directory and get everything back to where it was.
