I can only imagine what it's like over there. > Much prefer it to be Arizona though, or somewhere else in the US - you > have some amazing places over there I would love to explore at some > point. If you do ever make it to the US, let me know where because I may be able t= o recommend place to go hiking or just to explore. I've been to all 48 contiguous states and the Canadian provinces, just missing Alaska, Hawaii, and the Canadian territories. Usually I've sought out less trodden places in the process. There are some amazing places in Arizona and western New Mexico that are totally unlike anything you have in Great Britain. This is doubly true if you've never been to a desert before, but there is much more than just desert. I've been to nine Masters, and so far have explored every direction from Phoenix except west. That's mostly because it didn't look as interesting a= s other places on a map, but sometimes interesting places are not the obvious ones so this year I think I'll head that way. Over the other years, I've gone as far as a bit north of Flagstaff (keep trying to do Humphries but go= t rained out every time), east as far as Grants NM (MT Taylor is a great hike), south to the Mexican border, and northwest into the Prescott Nationa= l Forest. It's amazing how short a distance out of Phoenix you need to get away from the masses. There's a lot of public land out there. The Prescott, Coconino, Apache, Tonto, Siggreaves, Gila, and Cibola national forests and other reserves probably add up to a significant fraction of the land area o= f England, but with virtually no permanent residents. --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
