You can also use voice band FSK. Easier still to generate and decode.=20
DTMF is rather slow, though bit rate is x4 the symbol rate. You don't=20
need to use the same scheme as used for PSTN (and VOIP) in band SMS and=20
Caller ID. On Mobile SMS is out of band of course
