Cathedral or gallery or anything to do with Dutch history? Utrecht is an incredible city. Personally, I would wander along the Oude Gracht, stop for a coffee or three, and just enjoy the place. The Dom is visible from anywhere in the city, there is (or was) a little museum to Anne Frank at the Jahnskerk. The place is just thick with history. Given any finite amount of time you can barely get a sample. It might be more amazing to me being an American, but that city was founded in 47 A.D., and was a major center of commerce long before Columbus ever set foot over here. I spent a lot of time there years ago, and the old hotel I stayed at on Jahnskerkhof had been renovated in 15 something to accommodate the queen.=20 They had drawings of the renovation in the lobby. It had previously been a convent and there was a tunnel to the church. The night clerk was afraid to go up to the third floor, sure it was haunted. Sadly, the hotel has been take over by the Golden Tulip chain, so I doubt much of that history is still there. There also used to be boat tours along the gracht that show all sorts of history you don't see from the street. Great place; you will enjoy. http://webpages.charter.net/wb8rcr/pictures/faves/utrecht.jpg --McD --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
