Ctrl-Esc works as the WinKey on any version of Windows I've run across. My trusty Northgate Omnikey 102 keyboards (I have 5 of them!) don't even have a Win key and have the Ctrl, Alt and CapsLock keys in the "proper" positions -- Ctrl to the left of "A", Left Shift to the left of "Z", Alt in lower lefthand corner and Caps Lock next to spacebar, much like the old IBM AT keyboards. Works well for Ctrl and Alt key shortcut combinations used by Windows and most CAD applications. The keyboards also have a metal chassis, weigh about 5 lbs. so they don't slide around and use quality Alps mechanical switches which are clicky and last forever... I've been using these keyboards since the early 90's and I'll never give them up until they all die. The newer Win keyboards all feel mushy to me and the Caps Lock is where I expect Left Shift to be.
