'William Chops" Westfield ' Are there any good documents that summarize the PIC24 architecture, > shorter and better organized than the many documents that make up the > reference manuals? The programmer's reference manual gives a good overview and the details of what the 24 bit core looks like to the programmer. The individual peripherals are described in the family reference manual. Unfortunately that can't be downloaded as a single document as far as I hav= e been able to find. You have to download each chapter separately. Yes, that's a pain. The other gotha is that there are now multiple flavors of many of the peripherals, and each flavor gets a separate section in the family reference manual. You have to check in the datasheet for your particular PIC to see which flavor, and therefore which FRM chapter, applie= s to each peripheral. > I guess I'm sort of looking for something that > describes the features common across the various chips; I read the > "Programmer's Reference Manual" and found it rather divorced from the > details (and so ... generic.) Then you didn't read it very well. All the generic core details are in there. In fact, I usually keep a copy open to chapter 3 "Instruction Set Overview" when writing code. Even though I've written lots of code for the 24 bit core, I still have to occasionally check on the details of a instruction, or see which addressing modes exactly it supports. ******************************************************************** Embed Inc, Littleton Massachusetts, http://www.embedinc.com/products (978) 742-9014.
