Surely you've had conversations where you were trying to convince someone, where you were asking for information, and where you were just kicking something around. My point is that the process illustrated in that diagram may sound nice at first glance, but it is pointless and essentially meant as a insult. Everybody is going to say they'll change their mind if their point of view is proven to be incorrect, but the problem is of course in deciding when something has been proven. Very rarely is there unequivocal and unrefutabl= e evidence. Usually it's all about how much weight you assign to various pieces of partial evidence, and different people will assign different weights.
