Look up something called a "resistor divider". See attached. While there is no problem with your circuit, I would advise caution if conn= ected directly to the line, observing polarity where the low side is connec= ted to neutral and the hot side connected to the 1meg resistor. Ideally, p= erhaps, use a transformer and adjust the resistors accordingly.
