(I hope I've tagged this post correctly - if not, I'm sure the Admins will let me know) I've been in this business (electronic systems design and manufacturing) a long time and I usually have employees or myself perform required tasks (design, assembly, test) or outsource a task e.g. "take this schematic and lay out a PCB within these criteria..." that I'm too busy to do. Now I think I need a Mechanical Engineer/Designer type to do one-off drawings periodically. Most of these drawings are for aluminum panels that mount on 19" racks. The panels are standard 19" rack panels of various heights (1U, 2U, etc) and have one or more of a selection of components specified by me (switches, connectors, PCB Assemblies, speakers, control boxes, brackets, etc) installed in or on them but the specific configuratio= n varies by project. So two panels may have the same components but arranged differently. We currently use Visio and sort of have a "library" of parts we use over and over. One of my partners does this work now but he's not a ME and he's not able to crank out the drawings fast enough for a number of reasons. These drawings and the subsequent manufacturing, finishing, assembly, integration and test are making our projects late and I need to fix this problem. My partner wears several hats, as do I, and if I can get someone else to do these drawings, it will help solve this particular problem. So I guess I'm looking for a Mechanical Designer (aka Draftsman?) that will take small contract jobs periodically and produce manufacturing drawings from sketches and components specification/models/library. How would you guys go about finding this kind of person? Temp staffing agencies? Craigslist? Anybody here do this kind of project work? Thanks for any and all input!
