There are over 15,000 packages in Fedora and a similar number in Ubuntu.=20
I believe there are around 30,000 in Debian.  You will have to search far
and wide to locate a package that isn't included in the major distros.

And if you are using the major distros, those oddball packages are such a
pain to install that you usually won't bother.  But if you do, then you
probably downloaded the source to be able to install them anyway.

It may be that 99% of the packages aren't in the major distros, but 99% of
the packages you are likely to want are.
