Maybe the question is not whether (any) open source VCS will be
available, bet whether you'll be easily able in 20 years to read the
contents of a 20 year old repository written with open source software.
AIUI, that was the original "WordPerfect" question.

While this probably is true for some, it may not be true for all. If so,
it's not that different from closed-source systems; possibly only a
difference in degree rather than in principle.
