Go to that page.
Click the "zoom out" button 4 times.
Note the "trench" on either side of the South Island and where it
leaves the country.
Wonder again about the possible relationship to Greendale fault and
Kaikoura trench.
(That's the "plate edge" you can see.)

This will be completely familiar to the experts.
What they conclude or how much we hear at populist level is tbd.
