We have used backup systems in the past but the wrong time to test a back up system restore is when you need it. ZIP files are used every day and there is a confidence that they will work even when development platforms change into the future. One other thing that we do is when we do a release (anytime we send a tool outside the office) we zip the development sources, libraries, and released executable and save separately from the development platform(s) . These have proved invaluable later in supporting customers with frozen branch support.
