I got lectured to when I used "state-of-the-art" in a technical=20
discussion 25 years ago.
It's all on a 7-10 year cycle:

Mainframe / Timeshare - centralized
Open Systems - distributed
Three (or more) tier web apps - centralized
Mobile apps - distributed
