As small and light as possible! Other stuff I'm doing for these planes is using SOIC8 or SOIC14 chips - I even have 0.4mm PCBs. Have never used a dsPIC - the idea is interesting, and a quick check of the specs suggests good capabilities, but how do you fit 28 pins in a 10x8mm SOIC package? Duration required is very short - just engine sounds on a repeat loop. Matt's suggestion looks like what I'm after though - available in an SOIC16, so in budget, and all-inclusive, though it's not clear where I buy one from - anyway I now know what to plug into my google search.
