It's a matter of good analog front-end extension and ARM code to catch the signal, digitize it and send it to the database. Professional multimeters could be designed this way in the future. The multi core 1GHz+ devices (not necessarily ARMs) can be quite capable as pro EE devices, say, oscilloscopes.
