That is a trick you can do with the DIN 41612 connectors. You get chassis m=
ount wire wrap ones and use standard IDC ribbon cable connectors on them.

I suspect that a backplane using DIN 41612 connectors would suit the OP fin=
e, as the dimensioning of the connector is defined by the rack mount system=
.. The single row 32/dual row 64/triple row 96 pin format will stand on end =
in a 3U rack unit. The nominal board size of 100mm wide will go in 3U rails=
 on edge using these connectors.
