I've had pretty good luck with the Roving Networks modules. They make both a low power (RN-42) and a high power version (RN-41). Spark fun makes this on a breakout board, but it's kind of pricey at $60. However, the modules themselves are only around $20 (depending on which one you buy) and you can get them from Mouser.
