In the early 80s I was working for an engine rebuilder, and got interested in what it would cost to rejuvenate the fleet of defunct RX-3s Hawaii was littered with at the time. Short answer was, more than it was worth - You could buy a new car for what replacing the engine cost; no aftermarket in parts, so DIY also pro- hibitively expensive. These days there are rotary specialists that can do whatever you want.
