I find it difficult to believe that this is possible.  There are a lot =20
of purely mechanical advantages to the fossil fuels we use now, even =20
supposing that a proposed replacement doesn't have what would =20
currently be considered unacceptable levels of particular pollution...

(that nit out of the way, I don't see any reason that a better =20
external combustion engine isn't exciting for a lot of other reasons...)
