THe SN754410 is a dual H-bridge (quad half-h bridge, actually), pin =20 compatible with the L293D and with somewhat higher current =20 capability. The complication is that the internal schematic shows =20 diodes in the proper places, but the suggested external schematic also =20 shows additional diodes. Rumor has it (from Adafruit, IIRC) that the =20 internal diodes are primarily for ESD-like protection and external =20 diodes should be used for flyback purposes. But like the original =20 poster says, it would be nice to see a definitive written statement to =20 that effect...
