Bccs: part 2 I'll post this in [EE] as 1. Some genuine EE content. 2. Aimed at the [EE]'ers who don't subscribe to OT As Bob has adumbrated, the original material and other like it should be posted in [OT] as [EE] is intended for "real elecrtrical stuff such as you can buold yourself". The aim is to try (yeah right) to keep EE a pristine and happy EE place that will keep those with a more purist bent as happy as can be. The original post was entirely acceptable as an [OT] offering. ------------------------------------- 2. > Wonder if there is much of a market for a full Faraday cage for mobile > phones, guaranteed to block nearly all of that nasty radiation... When I got my first mobile phone I was interested in finding how much the signal would be blocked by shielding. I tried placing it in a metal office filing cabinet and viewing the signal-strength indicator through a slot - little or no apparent change. The phone was also able to be rung. The experiment did not extend to working out how to enclose myself along with the phone in the filing cabinet for speech tests, but i was suitably impressed. Obviously Faraday did not build the filing cabinet and/or the drawer slots made acceptably good slot antennae or ??? Bottom of cabinets are often open and informal "slots" run up sides of drawers, so maybe more shielding could be achieved without too much effort. Interesting lesson though.
