I would look into something called a "H bridge". That will let you drive the piezo both ways without requiring a negative supply. You can boost the 12V up to 30V. That will be the high side power to the H bridge, which wil= l drive the piezo. There are some tricks, like combining the buck converter and the high side drives of the H bridge. These are not actually that complicated, but are not conceptually as simple.
