I favour the mosfet version. Philips or Phillips, however they're titling=20
themselves these days, have a very good application note on this in one of=
=20
their I2C PDF's. I recall Maxim and I think TI have a similar one.

An alternative would be to use a non inverting hex buffer chip or two=20
especially if addressing an LCD.
