> Rubber bands to stop being Car sick I could almost manage to reserve judgement on that one. Almost. The ones I saw long ago had a metallic lump with a dull point that pressed against a specific area on the inner wrist. I'd rate it as 99.99...% likely that this does nothing useful BUT I've seen accupuncture and variants work reasonable miracles for some, and placebo and all its friends notwithstanding, it would be wiser to be very very very very sceptical of *some* things than adamantly certain they were fraudulent. I've never had accupuncture myself - just been suitably impressed at the quality of placebo it can generate. When placebo gets strong enough consistently enough Occam starts tapping you on the shoulder and suggesting that you at least think about it. Real placebo is a strong and valuable drug and not to be sneezed at.* More effective than valium in some trials. Definitely a real effect even when it's not. Anyone who can manage to get their brains to believe that some universe somewhere (not necessarily this one) "just happened" out of true nothingness, or that some universe of some sort has "just existed forever" (ie no "first cause") is on very very very dangerous grounds in attempting to reject some of the more plausible placebo generators. [[If that sounds like religion, it's not per se - its just that science has more trouble with its boundary conditions than many accept and/or realise]].
