In actual fact, according to http://www.microchipdirect.com/ShippingInfo.aspx they have warehouses in the US and the UK as well as Thailand. It's notable that by far the cheapest shipping is to the US, with the UK a distant 2nd, so it is actually different for Joe or me to order from them than it is for you (and theoretically better for me despite my distance from Thailand, but as mentioned before, even if I still used PICs, my low order quantities and free RS delivery means the shipping cost makes it uneconomic for me - presumably Joe orders enough PICs for them to make sense).
