Don't underestimate the magic of Sporadic E. I've talked to guys over
1000 miles away with a couple of watts and literally a small wire and no
matching (probably milliwatts effective) and they told me my signal was
stronger than locals on 6m. BTW, that small wire (less than 1.4 w/l) was
at the end of 50ft of thin coax (lottsa loss) and laid in the attic.
Used very low power to avoid the reflections blowing up the
transmitter. ;)

That setup started as "let's hurry and get something up fast" and stayed
a while because "gee, that worked... let's leave it for a while..." ;)

Just don't count on it as a regular thing...
