Hmm.  This implies there is something like a Van DeGraf generator happening
on a large scale driven by wind.  I suppose that's possible, since
thunderstorms seem to be charged by a similar effect, although in that case
the wind is vertical.  Still, you'd think any charge imballance would find =
a
way to short itself out before long if it were significant.

What about winds with such claimed properties that blow the other direction=
,
like the Foen?  According to your map, the Mistral blows from Spain south
into the Medditeranean.  The Foen blows north from the Medditeranean accros=
s
the Alps if I remember right, and is also claimed to have mystical but
largely unmeasurable properties.

To bring this thread back to its original topic, there was actually a brand
of electric hair dryer called the "Foen".
