Agreed.

The electronics magazine "design idea" columns (where readers send in =20
circuits for possible publication and glory and token payment) have =20
been publishing the most amazing collections of analog and discrete =20
circuitry recently, to accomplish things that really seem like they =20
should have been trivially implemented on a micro.  I don't get it.  =20
