In this case I agree with you, since the schematic symbol puts the pins on two sides and the chip has them on four. But quite often when doing a design from scratch I like to have the pins on the schematic symbol echo the physical layout of the part. If I have a choice about pin assignment, I can pre-optimize my board layout just by making the schematic look tidy. I don't know about other CAD packages, but the one I use lets me have unlimited schematic symbols for each part, and I take advantage of that. So I have no hard and fast rules, I do what works best for each job.
