No answers, I see. No favoutite instrument, but, what sort of MOSFEts and what parameters matter that make them marginal. Vds max? Vgth? Transconductance? .... ? Gate charge/capacitance, switching speed,...? You can do curve tracer stuff with a simple circuit plus scope, but depending on spec you are looking at a simple DC test may de. For my purposes I find that usually a lack of small (or large) holes in the front face and no shorts between electrodes that shouldn't be there are usually a reasonable indication of health. Failed MOSFETs of my experience in power circuits usually go DS short or DS= G (piece of wire) short. Other modes happen but are less common for me..
