Same thing with Edison, when you talk about bulbs you forget that Edison has only made it successful and a last long device, but the concept was coming from somebody else. Also we forgot that the concept of flying wa= s not invented by Wright brothers. They made many very good inventions, like the ailerons, concept of foils and wind tube and of course the first motorised flight, but there were many others contributed to their success. Microsoft did not invent the Basic language nor the concepts of MS-DOS (that was a weird mixture of CP/M and Unix). Inventions never happens out of noting, but rather like adding something to an existing knowledge, then adding something else to it etc etc until it becomes a real new thing. Xerox mouse had only wheels in 90 degrees to each other, no ball nor optics and I think it had 3 buttons but have to double check that. Also as far as I know in Xerox there was no overlapping windows= .. Apple made a huge research on how many buttons a mouse should have and they have found that one button was the less confusing to absolute beginners. Nowadays the picture is different and that's why even Apple mouse has changed (magic mouse for example has a multi-touch pad integrated in it replacing the traditional wheel for scrolling and stuff). Anyway, I agree with the DRM and privacy part of your comment but I think Apple makes really nice devices -- maybe a bit over priced but the devices are beautiful and useful anyway.
