Both the HP48G+ and HP50G are still available as brand-new units (not=20 second-hand or refurbished). I purchased my 48G+ about 4 years ago=20 and I think that I picked up the 50G last year. They complement my=20 pair of HP 33E calculators that now need new batteries (again). It was a sad day when my HP45 died - it was my calculator all through=20 college and beyond. I replaced it with my first 33E and bought a=20 second 33E so as to have a spare. A buddy gave me a 42S but I never really got to like it. Still keep=20 it around for when my other calculator is in a different room, though. I cottoned on to the newer generation of HP calculators a few years=20 back quite by accident. I purchased the 48G+ and quite like it. I'm=20 now using the 50G, though. I've come across a few RPN calculators that run on my PC that I now=20 use more than the hand-held calculators. The first is a free program=20 called Excalibur and written by David Bernazzani. Its only downside=20 is that the 4 major function buttons (+ - * /) have tiny symbols that=20 are hard to see. Version 2 adds a (1/X) function to the main section=20 of the calculator rather than being buried on the Scientific=20 functions page - its worth searching out if you are running a 1.x version. My most recent RPN PC-based calculator is eCalc. The free version is=20 a basic RPN calculator, the registered adds a fly-out sidebar that=20 adds a huge units-conversion section, an equation solver, etc. I=20 haven't used the solver - I use TK Solver for all of that stuff. But=20 its there if you need it. I like both Excalibur and eCalc and would be hard-pressed to choose=20 between one or the other. I use both daily (on different computers). dwayne --=20 Dwayne Reid Trinity Electronics Systems Ltd Edmonton, AB, CANADA (780) 489-3199 voice (780) 487-6397 fax www.trinity-electronics.com Custom Electronics Design and Manufacturing --=20 http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
