The images and video are somewhat ambiguous although I'd give it
better than 50% probability of being a missile. The other principal
possibilities I can think of are a wind-blown aircraft contrail shot
from a funny angle and a meteor (the latter being very unlikely due to
the apparent slow speed of movement at the head of the trail).

The news reports are suggesting that it could even be a very large,
unauthorized amateur rocket, among other possibilities. The US
government says they are puzzled so far as to the origin and they did
not launch anything.
